Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA), also known with alternative names like police services, sheriff’s department, or bureaus, have as a purpose enforcing laws. They are agencies organized by the government and their main task is crime prevention. Law Enforcement Agencies are formed by people who have been given power by the state to impose the law, protect citizens’ property and limit civil disorder. They are authorized to use legitimate force as police power to defend the state from aggressors. While the most important task of the Law Enforcement Agencies is to preserve order, they also perform in different actions outside of the policing activity.

The origin of the word “police” dates prior to the year 1500 from the Latin word “politia”, which is the Latin form of the Greek word “politeia”, and by the using of the Greek word “polissoos” used to design the person who was guarding the city.
