Courts

Court house, also known as court, court building or palace of justice. The term is known as Palais de Justice in countries of Continental Europe. A courthouse is the building where the court of law is located. It is a form of tribunal and can house the offices of a county government or governmental institution. The purpose of a court house is to arbitrate legal disputes between parties to come to a resolution and be responsible for the administration of justice.

The term court house has its origins in the late 15th century (around 1425 and 1475, used in the Middle English language); and the combination of the words court + house. In some states of the United States of America it can also mean county seat, which is an Americanism dated between 1795 and 1805 that stands for the highest form of authority in a determinate county (province or district).
