Schools are institutions where students receive an education by teachers. The word school has its origin in the Greek world “a group to whom lectures are given”, which means leisure. In most countries, primary school is compulsory for every child. There are different systems to go through at the same time that the student progresses in his studies and are roughly known as primary school, secondary school and higher education (University College or university). Young children are required to pass primary school to enroll in secondary school and the same applies for teenagers who want to continue to a higher education. The step prior to primary school is is kindergarten or pre-school, where children aged between 3 and 5 receive schooling.
Most schools provide a range of basic knowledge, but there are also schools specialized in a certain field to provide extra curriculum (economics, dance, music, theater); these schools are known as alternative schools
