Mostly known as state schools rather than public schools, they are primary and/or secondary schools operated by the government. There are also post-secondary school institutions, like universities, colleges and technical schools, which might be somehow funded by governments but these, are in less common practice. In the United States of America and Canada the term “public schools” is still used. The funding of state schools come from state taxes at either a local, regional or national level. That way, even for those who do not attend school, help insuring that everybody can have access to proper education. In most countries, it is compulsory to attend school up to the age of 11 years old; on the other hand, secondary school is not mandatory. School attendance is strongly revised during primary school years. Public schools, opposed to some private schools or institutions, do not make a profit out of the education offered.
