The function of a dentist is to diagnose, prevent and treat any disease or condition in the oral cavity. He is the doctor in charge of the patient and the most important part of the dentist team, having different teammates to support his work, such as assistants and hygienists. A dentist responsibility includes but it is not limited to any kind of dental treatment such as restoratives, orthodontics and prosthetic therapies, examinations, taking x-rays and diagnosis. Being a doctor they are also allowed to prescribe medications such as antibiotics and pain killers to serve during and after the treatment.

A dentist can also be referred as a dental surgeon due to the high education required to perform this activity. To become a graduate dentist you must possess a high school diploma and a bachelor’s degree. Students also have to apply to take the Dental Admissions Test (DAT) and complete at least four years of training.
